Big Head Todd and the Monsters
Founded in Colorado in 1986, Big Head Todd and the Monsters (BHTM) catapulted out of the mountain states and into the national spotlight. With chart-topping singles and engaging live shows, BHTM has sold over two million albums and packed major venues worldwide, including their home state's historic Red Rocks Amphitheater. Most importantly, they've done it the old-fashioned way: with excellent songwriting, scorching guitar and fearless genre melding. In 2011 the band commemorated 100 Years Of Robert Johnson by founding The Big Head Blues Club. Joined by special guests including B.B. King, Charlie Musselwhite, Hubert Sumlin, David "Honeyboy" Edwards and more, BHTM paid tribute to the blues legend both in the studio and on the road.
The longevity of BHTM's career is a testament to the quality of the music. More than a quarter of a century later, fans are still convinced that the best is yet to come. Checkout the band’s latest releases- Wipeout Turn and New World Arisin’ on their website: bigheadtodd.com.
BHTM’s 2017 Cruise- Vela Il Mediterraneo will be the fifth cruise hosted by the band and the first cruise for which they will journeying across the Atlantic. While a bit of a change from the tropical Caribbean beach atmosphere we have had in the past, they are very excited to be exploring this spectacular region of the Italian coast with such a great group of people- their fans.
Once again the beautiful and talented Hazel Miller will be joining our cruise in 2018. As most of you know, Hazel has been touring with and accompanying Big Head Todd and the Monsters for over 20 years. In addition to joining the band on stage during the cruise, Hazel will be treating us to an intimate solo performance and some other special treats as we sail the Mediterranean. Hazel had the entire ship rockin' and rollin' on the 2016 Caribbean cruise so be prepared for a good time. Checkout Hazel's website for tour info: hazelmillerband.com.
Hazel Miller is not just a great singer; “She is a force of nature!” quotes the Rocky Mountain News. Her voice has been called “stunning, moving and powerful.” Hazel has been a sought after performer in Colorado for the past 30 years. The Hazel Miller Band was formed more than 2 decades ago. HMB performs an eclectic blend of Jazz, R&B, Blues and original music. Hazel Miller Band’s music is designed to make the audience dance and sing-along. They play music that excites and involves the listener.
At this early time a definite schedule of live performances has not been established. Local Knowledge will be providing a more detailed itinerary as sailing dates get closer so passengers may plan accordingly. However, during the past BHTM cruises fans have typically been treated to two full main shows by the entire band and additional solo performances by Todd Park Mohr and Hazel Miller as well as impromptu gigs by local and guest artists. All of these performances are exclusively for BHTM Cruise passengers only and in some of the most intimate settings you will ever see the band play. Talk to anyone who has sailed with the band before and they will all tell you that even the most hardcore BHTM fan will be thrilled with this opportunity to hear their favorite music in such unique settings.
With a maximum of 170 passengers, our exclusively chartered tall ship the Star Flyer provides for an onboard atmosphere completely opposite to that found on a large 4,500 passenger mega-cruise ship. The band and band crew share the same public spaces as all fellow passengers. Do not be surprised to find a band or crew member saddle-up next to you at the Tropical Bar or be seated at your table for dinner. The only thing we ask is to please respect band and crew members' space during the week when they appear to be occupied or enjoying some personal time. After all, they are trying to get some vacation time in as well. Otherwise you will find them very receptive to a conversation about the day's port of call or reminiscing about a show from years ago.
