Live Music

As our itinerary begins to take specific shape the entertainment schedule is becoming more set. Passengers will receive details on the the days and times of anticipated performances for planning purposes but please realize that a big part of these BHTM cruises is the somewhat spontaneous nature of much of the activity and music. We will do our best to keep passengers informed but it is helpful to be flexible (and a lot more fun). We can say that during the past BHTM cruises fans have typically been treated to two full main shows by the entire band, unique solo performances by Todd Park Mohr, and occasional offerings from local musicians. All of these performances are exclusively for BHTM Cruise passengers only and in some of the most intimate settings you will ever see the band play. Talk to anyone who has sailed with the band before and they will all tell you that even the most hardcore BHTM fan will be thrilled with this opportunity to hear their favorite music in such unique settings. One thing is guaranteed- no one has ever experienced Big Head Todd and the Monsters live on a river ship on the Danube.

Band/Passenger Interaction

With a maximum of 166 passengers, our exclusively chartered river ship the Avalon Impression provides for an onboard atmosphere completely opposite to that found on a large 4,500 passenger mega-cruise ship. The band and band crew share the same public spaces as all fellow passengers. Do not be surprised to find a band or crew member saddle-up next to you at the bar, be seated at your table for dinner, or sampling some local "culture" alongside you ashore at a biergarten. The only thing we ask is to please respect band and crew members' space during the week when they appear to be occupied or enjoying some personal time. After all, they are trying to get some vacation time in as well. Otherwise you will find them very receptive to a conversation about the day's port of call or reminiscing about a show from years ago.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters

Founded in Colorado in 1986, Big Head Todd and the Monsters (BHTM) catapulted out of the mountain states and into the national spotlight. With chart-topping singles and engaging live shows, BHTM has sold over two million albums and packed major venues worldwide, including their home state's historic Red Rocks Amphitheater. Most importantly, they've done it the old-fashioned way: with excellent songwriting, scorching guitar and fearless genre melding. In 2011 the band commemorated 100 Years Of Robert Johnson by founding The Big Head Blues Club. Joined by special guests including B.B. King, Charlie Musselwhite, Hubert Sumlin, David "Honeyboy" Edwards and more, BHTM paid tribute to the blues legend both in the studio and on the road.

The longevity of BHTM's career is a testament to the quality of the music. More than a quarter of a century later, fans are still convinced that the best is yet to come. Checkout the band’s latest release- New World Arisin’ on their website:

BHTM’s 2019 River Cruise- This sail up the Danube will be the seventh cruise hosted by the band and the first time they will leave the high seas for the calm waters of a river. After a Mediterranean adventure in 2017 and clear Caribbean waters in 2018, they are very excited to be venturing inland into Europe and experiencing the the best river cruising has to offer with such a great group of people- their fans.
